THE PAPAKEA RESORT

Papakea Resort is a member of the International ResortQuest chain. I have been teaching Hatha Yoga at Papakea for several years and I absolutely love this resort. I love it because it is one of the oldest and most beautiful resorts on Maui. Unlike newer hotels on the island, Papakea has spacious grounds with a large number of very tall palms. There are bamboo groves lining the walkways in between the buildings. The low level buildings rest beside the sea giving all the suites breath taking views of the magnificent islands of Lani And Molokai. Swim in a protected reef directly in front of the hotel or play tennis at the large tennis courts and swim in one of the two pools. PapaKea Resort offers their hotel guests three swimmersize classes a week, as well as three Hatha Yoga classes, all of which I teach. PapaKea has many resident owners and returning guests as well as regular tourists, so it still retains a friendly, home like atmosphere. Yoga Retreat Guests must be guests of the Papakea Resort in order to participate in the Yoga Retreat. You should call 808 283-4952 before you make your hotel and airline reservations just to be certain that will be space available for you in the Retreat. You must be at the hotel by 5:00 pm, October 21, 2006, to receive your Yoga Gift Basket containing a Chakra Yoga CD, Hatha Yoga DVDs, a Yoga Mat, Retreat Event Schedule, Yoga Retreat Literature, Eye Pillows and a Dream Journal. These are all items you will need for the Yoga Retreat.

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF YOUR PAPAKEA YOGA RETREAT HOST AVA

My name is Ava I was born in Hungary and I have been teaching Yoga for over 30 years. I have lived here on the island of Maui since 1990. I spent the 70s and 80s teaching Yoga on the east coast and west coast of the United States, New York, Miami, L.A. The place I most love to be, is right here in Hawaii, especially because I love to teach Yoga outdoors.

My life long interest in Yoga began In school during the early 70s. Yoga became a natural extension of my interests in philosophy and art at the time. I really fell in love with the way that Yoga could make me feel so alive. I have never stopped practicing Yoga through all these long years, nor have I lost my wonder or curiosity about the meaning of life.

I have always sought for answers and inspiration from the beauty nature and for me the remarkable beauty of Hawaii is unparrelled. I am a swimmer and a surfer and the warm ocean waters feel very healing and nurturing to me. It was not until shortly after I arrived in Hawaii in 1990 that I decided to learn how to surf. I began to teach surfing and then started my own surfing school. I owned my Surfing School here on Mauifor over 7 years. In the early years of this business I created the world's first Beginning Surfing Instructional Video called Surf In One Lesson Guaranteed. This video is now in the Ocean Side Surfing Museum in California and is no longer sold to the public. I mention my surfing experience here primarily because I believe that surfing has positively affected how I teach Yoga. Surfing has allowed me to feel pulse of nature at a deep level.

In 2004 I created two Yoga DVDs which I filmed outdoors here on Maui. I went to some of my favorite spots on Maui to capture the mood of the island. These DVDs are available to purchase from this web site.

We have a wonderful local TV station here on Maui and I have a Yoga Program that may been seen on channel 54.

I also created this web site hathayogalesson.com 5 years ago. I am happy to say it has become one of the largest, most popular, free, Yoga learning resources found on the world wide web. It is my way of giving to the world community of seekers.

On the subject of my Yoga experience and how I teach Yoga, I have been on a long journey through different styles of Yoga such as Kundalini, Hatha, Astonga. I now take from my experience those elements I feel contribute to an effective and enjoyable Yoga class. I posses the highest accreditation from Yoga Alliance with the maximum 500 hours of Yoga training.

HATHA YOGA

I have an entire section devoted to the description of Hatha Yoga, Please click here to read more in depth about the subject of Postures or Asanas. The benifits of Hatha Yoga are many, the Postures or Asanas that compose a Hatha Yoga class bring health, beauty, strength, firmness, lightness, clarity of speech and expression, calmness of the nerves and a happy disposition. During the Retreat I will teach you how to assemble a powerful but easy to preform set of Asanas so that you will have a wonderful practice that will bring you all of the many benifits of Hatha Yoga. Please look at the Retreat Schedule link to find out how many Hatha Yoga classes are going to be offered at the Yoga Retreat.

WHAT IS CHAKRA YOGA

I have an entire page on this website devoted to the subject of Chakras you can click here to read about it in depth. I will be teaching Chakra Yoga techniques at the Yoga Retreat because Chakra Yoga or Kundilini Yoga deals with the primial source of the body, mind, spirit connection, and is most effective in unblocking the electro-magnetic engery flow which moves through the body. Chakra Yoga releases tension and anxiety from the mind and balances the bodies energies as it brings together the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of your being . By preforming various postures associated with the Chakras and by utilizing various powerful Sound Vibration (chants) as well as modern Imagery Meditation and Pranayama breathing techniques we are able to access our deepest emotions and feeling and to unlock the enormous energy and creative potential within us all. Kundilini Yoga is the most powerful means by which you can free the body and mind of stress, anxiety and tension and thereby restore the proper functioning of entire body, mind, spirit matrix. When all the Chakras are functioning properly you will feel very grounded, able to give and accept love, able to unleash creative energy and ultimately to experience a reconnection with God or All That Is. The Practice or the series of Movements, Postures, Mantras (Chants) and Breathing Exercises you will receive at this retreat can be used to help you manage stress, increase your energy levels, preserve your health, and increase your capacity for pure joy and happiness.

DEEP BREATHING THERAPY

I have a page on this web site devoted the subject of Deep Breathing or Pranayama, if you would like to read about it in depth please click here. You will find several animations of breathing techniques on my Yoga Breathing page, these will show you some of the most important breathing techniques of Pranayama Yoga. I will be teaching you some of these powerful breathing techniques at the Papakea Yoga Retreat. There will be daily breathing sessions both before and after the Postures and we will also be combining the breathing techniques with the postures and movements. The mind and the breath are two sides of the same coin, you change one and the other changes as well. We will attempt to harness the power of your breath in order to control your mind, By doing so you will be able to more easily manage your moods and instill more peace and balance into our life.

GUIDED IMAGERY

Images are events in the body. Images can refer to any sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings. Sensory images are the true or authentic language of the body. It is a language that is immediately understood and accepted by the body. Images can create both profound and subtle experiences in the body as when you gaze at the image of a delicious dessert you automatically start to salivate. Your body is creating a chemical condition in which it will be able to more effectively absorb and utilize the food. This is a simple but profound fact, the body responds spontaneously and changes chemically in responce to sensory images, images therefore can be used as a form of self-hypnosis which uses for its content the deliberate production of healing sensory images. Imagery coupled with postures and breathing exercises are a vital tool in the positive transformation of the body and the mind. Studies have shown the profound impact imagery can have on common ailments such as allergies, hypertension, headaches, pain, sleeplessness, and fatigue. Imagery can also be used to heal strickly psychological issues such as low self esteem, disconnectness with deep feelings and to releve depression and grief. You will receive several audio CDs in your Yoga Retreat Gift Basket when you arrive. These Imagery CDS have guided imagery that addresses all these specific problems and more. At the retreat you will also be taught how to utilize sensory images with the postures, movements and breathing exercises.
